Saw this comment from DJI-ytao on the DJI forum… looks like we’re getting that higher bitrate?
Good news for sure! Always nice when a company actually listens. Higher bitrate might not matter to everyone, but for those of us using action cams for fast-moving shots, it’s a big deal. I’m fine with a bit of extra battery drain and larger files if it means better video when I’m flying FPV. Can’t wait to see how this plays out in the next couple of months.
@Jordan
Yep, and if it’s h265, even better. 120 bitrate on h265 is like 240 on h264. Way better quality.
Saw a couple of YouTubers mentioning DJI’s going to tweak bitrate and color processing with a firmware update. Let’s see if it holds up!
Finally, we did it!
LOL… I got a 512GB card, not worried about file size at all.

Biggest hit is probably gonna be battery life, but yeah, totally worth it.
This is awesome. I took a two-hour motorcycle ride, and the footage came out at 75mbit. Looks better than my Action 4 or GoPro 10. Gonna upload the video soon.

From what I’ve seen, the Action 5 does look better with contrast and dynamic range than the 4. But if you look closely, you’ll see some shadow degradation compared to the 4. It’s not a big deal for most, but once you notice it, it’s hard to ignore. Still, the extra battery life and smaller file sizes are pretty nice overall.
@Whitney
Yeah, if you’re pixel peeping, sure… but for 99% of people, they won’t notice. With all the compression on social media anyway, it’s not gonna be perfect.
Sweet. Just sent back my GoPro Hero13 and got the Osmo Action 5.

Good choice! GoPro hasn’t really been on top of things for a few models now.
Looks like we’re back in business.
I noticed with my Action 5, the sport stabilization mode goes away in 10-bit HLG or D-Log modes and only allows the standard stabilization. Do you think they might update this?
If they really push this update, I might grab an Action 5.
This is good to hear. 60Mb/s was way too low. Hoping we at least get double the bitrate and that it doesn’t overheat the camera.
Nice to see them actually paying attention.
Well, that was fast. Looks like Osmo Action 5 is next on my buy list.
Good job, DJI. Just hope it’s not one of those cases where they just change the numbers on paper without actually fixing anything. To be fair, they do usually come through with solid updates. My Mini 3 Pro got a 10-bit update after launch, so here’s hoping.
Feels like this was planned all along… probably held back to keep those battery life numbers looking good.
