So my Mini 4K lost signal and went down over the river near me. Turns out it crash-landed in the local waste treatment plant 
. One of the school officers recognized me from a clip on the SD card and gave me a call. Good news is I already had it replaced through DJI’s flyaway coverage.
First time I’ve seen someone actually get their drone back thanks to someone else. That’s awesome. Did it catch the crash too? Lucky the SD card survived all that.
Dang, that drone got its eye poked out

I really don’t trust the return-to-home feature. Had way too many times where the signal dropped and the drone just dropped out of the sky. That RTH thing isn’t always reliable.

Yeah it’s improved a lot though. Newer drones have better vision sensors and even LIDAR now which helps a ton.

My Mavic 2 has never failed with RTH, always nails it.

I get what you’re saying. Older Minis kinda sucked with GPS and RTH. But DJI keeps upgrading their tech—bigger drones have better modules and newer Minis are improving too.

Next time, throw a .txt file on your SD card with your name and number. Also, slap a label with your info on the drone or even inside the battery bay. Makes it way easier if someone finds it.
I’d just strip it for parts at this point.

I love my Mini 4K too. Such a solid beginner drone.

Technically, DJI owns that old one if they gave you a replacement under Care Refresh.

True, but in reality, if you call them they usually just tell you to keep it or toss it. Same happened with Amazon once—they sent me extra stuff and told me not to bother sending it back.
