PSA: So your drone broke... but now your used gear is suddenly worth double?

Found on Facebook marketplace. He wants $550+ for this (it’s maybe worth $375 private party sale).

He was the founding president of his high school’s drone club. He knows what he’s got, no low ballers.

(He thinks the bag alone is worth $215; I offered him $300 for just the RC, batteries and charger, citing prices on eBay and MPB, with links, expecting a reasonable counter).

You can bring a horse to water…

$215 for a lunchbox that doesn’t even keep your food warm? Yikes.

And don’t forget the $35 cardboard box—‘like new, never flown.’

Seems like everyone’s selling a cardboard box these days. Must be a trend.

Yeah but imagine the karma from posting a pic of that ‘rare’ box lol.

Personally, I wouldn’t waste my time arguing with someone like that.

Normally I wouldn’t either, but I’ve got a shoot next week and buying local would’ve saved me shipping time. Gave him one reply and left it at that.

Facebook marketplace is full of wild prices. Yesterday a guy wanted $770 for a used jet pump that’s $379 new. Total nonsense.

And then they wonder why nobody buys from them. Just sitting on a pile of overpriced junk.

Offer him $10 less every week until he caves. :joy:

$300 would be a fair deal for all that stuff, but $515 is just greedy.

At first I thought you were haggling the whole kit, which maybe would be worth around $550, but not without the drone.

Here’s my breakdown:

  • $120 – RC controller (used)
  • $90 – Battery 1 (used)
  • $90 – Battery 2 (used)
  • $60 – Charger (new)
  • $20 – DJI bag (used)
  • $15 – Prop set (twice what he’s offering)
  • $10 – ND filters (used)

That’s about $405 if you go by used retail. I offered $350 to take it all off his hands and skip the part-out hassle.

You could get a legit camera backpack for $200. Just saying.

You can’t reason with folks like that. Move on.

That bag’s maybe worth $25 tops. He’s dreaming.

If he’s not being realistic, just leave your offer and walk. Let him come to you later if he smartens up.

Exactly what I did. Told him he had until noon the next day to decide and I’d need a deposit if he agreed. He already said no, so I just ordered the batteries and charger from a reliable seller.

Some people never give up hope… even when the math doesn’t add up.

Gotta love Facebook Marketplace drama lol.

Don’t let these folks waste your time. Not worth the headache.
