RF transmitter for "Fox Hunt" drone

I’m aware of the extensive rules and regulations surrounding this, having worked in the RF field before. I’m curious if anyone remembers CB Foxhunts, where someone would hide with a transmitter, and hunters would use direction finding techniques to locate them.

My question is: Does anyone know of recent successful attempts to set up a similar event, or can you point me to someone who has done it? I’d like to learn from others’ experiences to get started.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes, ham radio clubs still engage in this.

@Mitchelle The “old guys” at our club claimed to have done it in the past, but they said it had been a while. They also suggested that the proximity to the airport and the new regulations may have had a role.

I have participated in CB Foxhunts, where we used direction finding to locate hidden transmitters. Recently, local amateur radio clubs have organized some successful events. I recommend contacting these clubs for detailed information and advice. They frequently share their experiences and best practices on their websites or forums.

I used to be deeply involved in RF and amateur radio activities, and I fondly remember the thrill of CB Foxhunts. I recently wanted to revisit the excitement and set up a similar event. I reached out to local amateur radio clubs and online forums where enthusiasts still organize these hunts. Many have adapted to modern technology while retaining the classic elements of direction finding. I found success by connecting with a few seasoned organizers who shared their tips, from choosing the right frequencies to using effective hiding techniques and coordinating with participants. If you’re looking to start your own event, reaching out to these communities and learning from their experiences will be invaluable.
