Should I get Mini 4K or a Mini 3?

Hey everyone, I’m a photographer just starting to get into drones. I’m taking a course to get my RPA license and have been practicing with a $99 drone for the last few months. I’m really enjoying it, but I’m ready to upgrade to something more serious.

I was considering the DJI Neo, but the camera quality didn’t impress me. Now I’m torn between the Mini 4K and the Mini 3 — my local store has them for almost the same price, with only a $30 difference. I’ve seen some amazing shots from the Mini 4K in class, but I’ve also heard the Mini 3 has better overall image quality.

Is the Mini 3 worth the extra $30, or should I just go with the Mini 4K? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What kind of cameras are you using for your photography work?

I’m not shooting commercially yet, just as a hobby for now. I’ve mainly been using Canon cameras like the 200D Mk II.

Mini 3 Pro, no question.

I’m a photographer who recently got into drones too. I started with the DJI Neo as a gateway and now I’m looking for better image quality.

Between the Mini 4K and Mini 3, the Mini 3 wins — the 1/1.3" sensor on the Mini 3 is a big step up from the 1/2.3" sensor on the 4K, especially in low light.

If the price difference is only $30, go for the Mini 3. The image quality is better, and you can tweak the sharpness settings in the app if you’re worried about the over-sharpening issue.

I’d also recommend getting the Fly More Combo if you can — extra batteries and a carrying bag make a huge difference.

Mini 3, hands down. The Mini 4K has a smaller camera sensor, louder propellers, and worse battery life.

I had the same dilemma back in November. I went with the Mini 3 for the larger sensor, which gives much better image quality in low light. Plus, the Mini 3’s vertical shooting mode is a nice bonus.

One thing to consider — the Mini 4K is under 250g, so you don’t need a Part 107 license to fly it recreationally in the U.S.

If you’re planning on doing any professional photography, though, the Mini 3 is definitely worth the extra money for the better sensor.

Honestly, I’d recommend starting with a Mini 2 4K Fly More Combo if you’re just testing the waters. It’s cheaper, super portable, and still takes great photos.

¡El Mini 3! La cámara es mucho mejor que la del Mini 4K.

Mini 3 all day long.
