I’d like advice on choosing between the DJI Mini Pro 4 and the DJI Air 3S. I’m new to flying drones, and the conditions in my area are typically low light during the day. I’ll often fly near trees and over a lake.
The DJI Air 3S seems appealing because of its lidar technology, which helps in low light and adds safety features. However, I’ve heard it might not be as beginner-friendly. On the other hand, the DJI Mini Pro 4 is good for beginners but lacks the advanced safety features of the Air 3S.
I’m fine with registering a drone since I’m in the USA, and the process is simple. If I go with the Mini Pro 4, I’d get the DJI RC 2 controller. For the Air 3S, I’m undecided between the DJI RC-N3 and the RC 2. Considering the price difference, I’d like to know which controller is the better choice.
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you need more details to help me decide!
Both drones are beginner-friendly. If portability or lightweight is not a concern for you, the Air 3S would be better in most situations, especially with its larger sensor for low-light footage.
If you’re flying over a lake, avoid flying too close to the surface as the sensors might get confused and cause the drone to crash. Stay at least 25 feet above the water.

Just to confirm, you mean 25 feet above the water, right?
If you’re okay with getting the necessary certifications, go with the Air 3S. It has a better camera and performs well in low light. Both drones are easy to fly.
I’m a beginner, but I have a related question: Are there drones that can float or are semi-waterproof? I need one for searching in swampy or lake areas. Any advice would be appreciated.
