I’ve been into photography as a hobby for about four years now and I’m thinking about getting a drone to add something new to my portfolio.
I was leaning toward picking up a used Mini 3 Pro, but now the Flip came out and a friend from the gym offered to sell me his old Mavic 2 Pro for $400.
Is there a clear winner here? I’m open to any advice!

Got it. I just got into drones myself about 3 weeks ago with the Mini 4 Pro and it’s been a blast. The more I learn and watch videos, the more I realize how deep this whole drone world really goes.
If you’re not planning to hang on to it as your main drone for long, the Mavic 2 Pro could hold you over until you’re ready for something newer. Otherwise, I’d lean toward the Flip. Honestly though, $400 feels a little high for an older drone.
One heads-up about the Mavic 2 Pro: check if the batteries are swollen. You can’t buy brand-new ones anymore, so you’d be stuck with used or sketchy third-party ones. That said, it’s still a solid drone—I still fly mine now and then.

You can still find Mavic 2 Pro batteries. DJI actually replaced mine for free last year after it swelled up.
They’ve been out of stock on DJI’s site for a while. I tried to get a swollen one replaced too and they wouldn’t do it—maybe because mine was five years old. And yeah, you can go third-party, but I wouldn’t trust them personally.
