Should I Replace These Blades? New Drone Owner Here

Usually, I’d say props are cheap, better safe than sorry. But these look fine to me. They don’t seem broken, just a little chipped. You could smooth them out with fine sandpaper, but props are easy to replace, so if you want to be sure, it might be best to swap them out.

@Oli
I was thinking about sanding them down, but my worry is that it could weaken the props and cause more cracks over time, especially in the damaged ones. Maybe I could protect the sanded part with something, but at that point, I’m probably spending more money and time fixing them than just replacing them, haha.

@Oli
I agree, I wouldn’t worry about flying with those if I had to, but if I didn’t have any spares, I’d order a new set.

I got the fly more combo, so I have spare props, and I decided to be extra careful this time.

Better safe than sorry. Props are cheap, and it’s not worth the risk if they fail mid-flight.

True, especially since I use the drone to fly over a nature reserve, and I definitely don’t want to risk losing it near a bunch of lions, haha.

Short answer: No. Long answer: No, you don’t need to replace them.

Hey all, I’m new to drones, but I’ve been flying for two months without any issues. Yesterday, though, I tried to land my drone, and a gust of wind pushed it into a brick wall. Both sets of front blades hit the wall. I got it away quickly, but the tips of the blades are damaged. I know you should replace damaged blades, but I want to know what qualifies as “replace immediately” versus “superficial damage” that’s still okay to fly with. I’d love some input on these photos. The drone is a DJI Mini 2 SE.

Yes, always replace damaged props. It’s a cheap fix and keeps your drone flying. Just don’t over-tighten the screws, and check them after every flight.

Thanks! I wasn’t sure if the damage was enough to warrant replacement, but I’ll replace them now. And I’ll keep the screws in mind!

Normally, I’d say replace if in doubt, but those blades look fine to fly with.

Are you okay with using blades like these on your helicopter? If not, replace them. They’re a cheap part and it’s always better to swap them regularly, like changing the oil in a car.

If you have to ask, the answer is always “replace” on this forum. DJI props are cheap, and you can get a full set for about £9 in the UK with next-day delivery. I always keep an extra set in my bag.

Props are 100% fine.

Stay safe and change them.

If you replace them, toss the old ones. Don’t be tempted to use them again. I think I need to follow my own advice!

Replace them. Damaged props can be out of balance and cause issues like jello in your videos. The drone will fly fine, but the recording could suffer.

Dude, change the blades. You see the damage, so just replace them and buy some extras next time you ask this question on this forum.

No, lol.
