Slow panning with my drone… what am I doing wrong?

Hey everyone,

I’m new to DJI drones — just got the Mini 4K combo — and I’ve been loving how easy it is to get outside and fly. I’ve already taken some nice photos (well, I think so at least!), but I’m really struggling with video.

I can’t seem to pull off a clean slow pan. I’m trying to keep the drone still and just turn it slowly in place, but the footage ends up way too fast and kinda messy — like it rushes past instead of gliding.

I’ve watched a bunch of videos (before and after buying the drone), but most of them feel like they’re aimed at folks who already know how to do this. I’m definitely still figuring it out.

Any tips for getting smoother pans? Really appreciate any advice.

Try lowering the stick sensitivity in your settings and fly using the ‘Cine’ or tripod mode for smoother control.

Also, shoot at a higher frame rate if you can, then slow it down later during editing — that can help make the movement feel more natural.

Thanks! I’m recording in 4K at 30fps right now. I’ll definitely try lowering the sensitivity too.

Isn’t there that rule that panning with a drone never really looks great on its own?

Usually it helps if you’re combining the pan with some forward or upward movement too — it gives it more depth.
