So I just got my first drone

Finally got my first drone! I’m completely new to this, but I’m excited to figure it all out. It feels good to try something new and pick up a fun skill. Any advice for a beginner?

I’ve only got one drone too, and it’s so easy to use! Love it.

I’ve got the Mini 2. It’s 4K, right? Or is DJI still making an older version for beginners? It’s not a bad thing, but I feel like calling it a ‘beginner drone’ kind of undersells what it can do. Feels like marketing nonsense.

If someone’s first car is a Porsche, does that make it a ‘beginner car’? Just my two cents.

@Hayes
Yeah, the Mini 2 is 4K. But a few years ago, DJI had a lower-tier Mini 2-ish drone with only 720p. Maybe that’s why they’re making the 4K branding so obvious.

Actually, the Mini 2 SE is 2.7K.

@Page
Ah, gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up!

I’ve got the original Mini 2, and it’s an excellent drone. Bought it years ago for $430, but the Mini 4K is so much cheaper now. What a deal!

Awesome drone for the price. Make sure to turn back at 50% battery and maybe grab some extra blades. You’ll need them.

Take it slow, get comfortable with the controls, and maybe customize the stick inputs if that helps. A good rule is 1/3 battery out, 1/3 back, and 1/3 as reserve. Running out of battery isn’t fun.

Yeah, I’m thinking extra blades and a spare battery are must-haves.

@Hart
Mine came with extra blades, but only four. You’ll probably want more as a beginner.

@Hart
Doesn’t it have auto return-to-home when the battery gets low? I just got mine but haven’t flown it yet.

It does, but keep in mind that wind and other conditions can mess with battery usage. Always plan for a buffer.

I’ve been using the Mini 4K too. It’s fantastic!

Congrats! Where’d you buy it from? I’ve been looking but can’t find it on Amazon.

I’m in Ireland and bought it from a local retailer. I try to avoid Amazon when I can.

Congrats! My first drone was the Mini SE. No bells and whistles, but it taught me the basics. Safe flying!

If you haven’t already, get DJI Care Refresh. I crashed my Mini 3 into a tree and got it replaced with a new one.

I don’t see what makes this a ‘beginner’ drone. It’s got plenty of features!

It’s the price and simplicity. More expensive drones usually have better cameras and features like obstacle avoidance.
