Edit: The exact props I used are called “HQProp DT2.9X2.7X3 for DJI Avata (2CW+2CCW)-Poly Carbonate”
Got them from here: HQProp DT2.9X2.7X3 DJI Avata
Mine are the bright yellow ones.
If you’ve flown the Avata 1 or 2 in manual, you’ve probably dealt with that super annoying yaw tumble thing. On the Avata 1 (especially with older firmware), it could completely flip out and crash. The Avata 2 is better, but the issue is still there—it just doesn’t kill your drone now.
But it still sucks. I hated how it messed with my control mid-flight. Took all the fun out of it.
Basically, the tumble happens when your drone flies into its own dirty air. That turbulent air doesn’t lift as well, so one side of the drone loses lift and boom—it tips and falls.
Think of it like an F1 car losing grip when it’s too close behind another. Same concept.
Most other quads don’t do this because they’ve got stronger motors or better props. DJI went for longer flight times instead, so that tradeoff is baked in.
Here’s the fix: Swap out the stock props with the HQProp DT2.9X2.7X3 ones made for the Avata 1. Throw those on your Avata 2, and the yaw tumble goes away—like 90% gone. The tradeoff is about 30% less flight time, but the control you get back is worth it.
Heads up: The screws from your Avata 2 props don’t fit these. So you’ll need to also order the third-party stock Avata 1 props (they come with screws). Don’t buy direct from DJI—they’re overpriced.
Honestly, if you fly in manual, you need these props. You can always switch them out depending on if you want endurance or performance that day.
Only way I can still get it to tumble is diving at 90+ km/h and slamming on the brakes. Otherwise, even in 30 km/h winds, it handles like a dream.
Can’t believe more people don’t know this. Please spread the word—the yaw tumble doesn’t have to be something we just deal with.
