So where can you actually legally fly drones recreationally?

I haven’t bought a drone yet and I have been delaying it for years. Right now, I am considering getting a DJI Mini 2 to start with. The issue I am struggling with is that it seems drones are prohibited almost everywhere I look.

My backyard is not big enough for flying.

So what is the deal? Are these laws just a safety precaution in case you get caught doing something risky? Or do all drone flights require permission? It seems odd that stores like Best Buy sell them if there are so many restrictions on where you can use them.

I live in northern Delaware. State and county parks ban drones except for special permissions.

Is there a database that lists drone-friendly areas?

I purchased a mini 2 in Denver, only to discover that flying it is prohibited in all the places I had planned to go. I’ve just been sitting in storage for the past year.

I believe taking a part 107 course will provide you with the knowledge to realize that not all limitations are allowed by federal law. Granted, experience and knowledge are the keys to determining when and where to break local rules.
