I’ve been thinking of getting a Neo to use for riskier flying, just so I don’t mess up my new Avata 2 (yeah, I know it sounds silly). But if I get the Neo for FPV stuff, I’m worried it’ll make my Avata kind of pointless.
Also, I’m having trouble figuring out where I can actually fly the Avata here in the UK — it feels like the CAA rules are out to ruin the fun. I don’t want to annoy anyone with the high-pitched noise from the Neo, but I also don’t want to break any laws by flying the Avata near houses.
I had the exact same thought after I got my Avata 2. I ended up picking up a Meteor75 with the DJI O4 instead — cheaper and does the job. I love the Avata 2, but I already had to use DJI Refresh once and really don’t want to go through that whole wait again.
Yep — Avata 2 to be clear. I’ve got the Goggles 3, the DJI Controller 3, and the motion controller. From what I know, you can use the motion controller with the O3 air unit, but not with the O4. Haven’t tested it myself since I barely touch the motion controller anymore.

Got it — and yeah I tend to just call it ‘Avata’ out of habit too. Kinda weird the motion controller doesn’t work with O4 but does with O3. I haven’t bought a real controller yet but hoping to get there soon.

I kinda pushed myself to learn with the regular controller. I’m still smoother with the motion controller, but after spending time with the Sim and Controller 3, I feel like I’ve got way more control now. Motion controller made me think I was better than I actually was. The learning curve with a real controller is steeper, but you can feel how much more control you get once you stick with it.
Still, I think the motion controller is great for showing others how to fly — it really helped when I first got into the hobby about 6 months ago.
@Carson
Totally agree — it’s super easy to use. And after spending way too much on the Avata, I’m not exactly excited to drop another 100 just for the controller.

Can’t blame you. I mostly got Controller 3 because I wanted the option to try out drones from other brands. I’ve built RC cars before but still not quite ready to build a drone, so having a controller that works with different setups is really helpful. Motion controller just doesn’t give that kind of flexibility.
