I’ll be traveling from the US to Switzerland, Austria, and Germany in the coming weeks. I’ve sorted out all the rules, regulations, licensing, and registration requirements, but I’m struggling to find liability insurance.
Every company I’ve contacted in those countries will only insure if you also live there. And most US-based companies don’t offer coverage in Europe. Has anyone had success getting drone liability insurance for travel?
Check if your homeowner’s liability insurance covers you. Mine does for specific types of drones, so you might get lucky.
Otherwise, look at commercial drone insurance. It’s pricier but provides more coverage.
I have non-commercial insurance (COPA/Magnes/Lloyds/Coverdrone) that’s valid worldwide with some exceptions (mostly war zones). It’s surprising yours doesn’t offer similar coverage.
Edit: When I used HUB/I3, it was Canada-only. Are you looking for private insurance or commercial?
@Andi
Private use, thanks for the suggestion! I hadn’t checked with my homeowner’s insurance, but I’ll reach out and see if it applies to drones abroad.

Heads up—there’s mixed info on whether making a claim on your drone would raise your home insurance. It’s worth confirming with them.
@Tavi
Yes! It’s covered under my umbrella policy, which includes international liability. I’d recommend checking with your insurance broker directly if you have a similar policy.

Glad it worked out for you! Just curious, which insurance company are you with?
