I shared this in the mavic pro group, but after seeing some talk here about the number of drone shots compared to shots with drones, I thought some here might like it.
I bought the Mavic 4 Pro at the DJI Hasselblad flagship store in Piccadilly, London — just stopping by and they had 3 base Mavic 4 Pros in stock, so I went for it. It turned out to be a bad move for warranty and Care Refresh, but I’ll share that story in the comments if people want to hear.
For the flight test, I shot in 6k 24p, D-Log, and didn’t change much else, so some shots have auto-exposure adjustments.
That caused some jittery looks because shutter speed was probably high to handle the bright California sun. ND filters are definitely needed — hoping the new eND filter comes soon since PolarPro’s sets won’t ship until June.
I did a light grade in DaVinci and it held up pretty well. I wish the All-Intra 4:2:2 codec from the creator edition was available here, but it wasn’t worth the extra cost. I do a lot of VFX and color work, and even footage from my Mavic 2 Pro has worked fine.
Maybe DJI will let us buy an All-I license for the base Mavic 4, but after dealing with support about Care Refresh, I’m not holding my breath.
@Keats
Yep, that’s the church from Westworld at Paramount Ranch in Agoura Hills.
About the warranty — when I bought the drone at the DJI flagship store, the clerk said Care Refresh was all good, just sign up once I got back to the US. So I bought it, but when I tried to sign up in the US, I was told it wasn’t available.
I contacted support and they said no warranty or Care Refresh for me because I bought it outside the US. I explained the employee at the store told me otherwise. After a week of back and forth, they admitted the employee was wrong but said their policy is that drones bought outside the US aren’t covered in the US.
They offered me $30 store credit to fix it.
I politely told them where to stick their $30.
Turns out people who bought from places like Adorama can get Care Refresh, so it feels like an unfair rule. I’ve owned DJI stuff since the first Phantom and spent over $20k total, and they basically told me to go screw myself.
