Used Mavic 2 Pro or a new Mini 4K… what’s better for someone just starting?

I’m new to drones and trying to decide between a used Mavic 2 Pro or buying a brand new Mini 4K. What would be the better option for someone just starting out?

If it’s in good shape, I’d go for the Mavic 2 Pro 🕵🏻‍♂️

It has a bigger and better 20MP 1-inch sensor, handles wind well, has variable aperture, obstacle avoidance, 10-bit D-Log M, top speed of 72 km/h, and more. But that’s just my take. The Mini 4K is still decent — it’s super portable and easier on the legal side since most places don’t require a license to fly it. 🕵🏻‍♂️

@Tobin
Just a heads up, I’ve seen them posting on forums from the Netherlands, so if they’re in Europe, all those regulations might apply to them more.

The Mavic is better overall, but there are usually stricter rules because of its weight. Do you want top-notch footage? Go with the Mavic. Want to fly more places easily? Go Mini. The Mavic probably means you’ll need a certificate too, especially in the EU where they expect you to have hands-on practice with heavier drones.

Mavic 2 Pro is the better drone, no doubt. But it’s been discontinued for a while now, so batteries and parts might be harder to find soon. It’s also heavier, which means more flight restrictions. For a beginner, the Mini 4K might be the better pick. Ideally, look at a Mini 3 or 4 if you can, but the 4K is a solid way to start.

I’d say go Mini 4K if your only other option is the Mavic 2 Pro — mainly because of the controller. Personally, though, I’d lean toward the Mavic Air 2 instead.

Really depends on the Mavic’s condition. If it’s been beat up, I’d stay away. Always double check everything works before buying used.

Less restrictions here in Canada. I also have one, and the footage is nice and sharp. It’s super easy to learn, fly, and carry around when traveling.

It’s got better range, it’s newer, and repairs are cheaper. That said, I still think the Mavic Air 2 is the better overall option.

I’d pick the Mavic 2 Pro. It was hands down my favorite DJI drone and I’ve flown almost all of them. I’ve had Minis and they’re great, but where I live it gets windy, and the Mini can’t really handle anything over 15-20 mph winds. The Mavic 2 Pro handles like a dream. I’d even trade my Mavic 3 Classic for a new Mavic 2 Pro if I could. It just flew better than anything else I’ve tried. Let us know what you go with!
