I just got my first drone today, the Mini 3 Pro with RC, and I’m trying to figure out what extra gear I should get. I’ve already got an SD card on my list (thinking about the Samsung EVO or SanDisk Ultra/Extreme since they support 4k video). Are these good options? Also, what kind of charger should I get? I heard it only supports up to 36W charging, so I’m guessing a 65W charger won’t charge it any faster than a 30-40W one, right? Planning to grab the Fly More kit soon, plus a case, charger, and SD card, but what else should I get? Is a screen protector for the RC controller worth it? I don’t use them on my phones, but I want to keep this drone in good shape, so maybe it’s a good idea?
Are prop guards or landing gear useful? I’m a beginner and will probably bump into things, so I’m leaning towards prop guards, but I think it might push it over 250g. What about registering the drone? Do I need to take the TRUST exam or anything else? I’m just flying for fun right now and don’t plan on doing anything serious for a few months until I get the hang of it. Should I fully charge the drone and RC before first use? How do I update the firmware—do I need to connect it to a PC, or can it do updates over Wi-Fi? Sorry for all the questions! Any advice, tips, or suggestions would be really helpful. Super excited to get this thing in the air! Thanks, everyone!
I got 2 years of insurance and have been practicing whenever I can. So far, no crashes or close calls. I even flew it over the ocean, and it handled the wind surprisingly well!
The camera cover that comes with the Mini 3 Pro doesn’t have glass, so it doesn’t protect the lens. You might want to get some ND filters eventually, but at least get a UV filter to protect the lens.
I got the Fly More+ combo, which includes extra batteries and the charger, though it does push the weight over 250g, so I had to register my drone. I’d also recommend ND filters, as they make your videos look more realistic. I have landing gear and prop guards but rarely use them since they can affect flight. A landing pad is also handy if you take off on uneven ground to avoid dirt getting into the rotors. A lanyard for the RC is also a good idea to prevent drops. A sunshade for the controller screen helps when it’s really sunny out. And think about DJI Care—it’s insurance for your drone in case of crashes.
It’s good to charge before use, but if you’re just doing a short flight, it’s not always necessary. Updates are done over Wi-Fi directly on the controller. Also, be careful unfolding the arms—many people break the drone by trying to swing the front arms out when they actually rotate.

Get the SanDisk Extreme PRO (red & black), not the PLUS (red & gold). A UV filter is good to replace the basic plastic cover on the camera. Also, prop protectors and a good case will keep your drone safe.

Spare joysticks are a must. I broke mine once, and it was a hassle without them.

Do propeller protectors actually help? I feel like they might bend the propellers.

Watch some videos and try figuring things out first. If you get stuck, ask here.

Adding any accessories might push you over 250g, so keep that in mind for registration and certification.

Just remember that if your drone goes over 249g, you should register it with the FAA. It’s a small step, but worth doing.
