Here’s the drone I got
. What should I get to make it fly?
You’ll probably want to swap out that FlySky receiver for something more modern, like ELRS.

I’ve been having trouble understanding this. If my drone has an analog receiver, does that mean I need an analog radio? I’ve also seen people say that VR goggles can be either digital or analog, and it doesn’t matter.
@Riley
Your radio needs to match the protocol of your receiver. For goggles, they need to match the video transmitter (VTX) protocol on your drone. ELRS is great for your control link, and you can use either analog or digital for the video link as long as the protocols match. Digital has a better picture but adds a little latency. Analog is cheaper and faster.
Most radios support ELRS, either built-in or through a module, so you’re good there. Check out Joshua Bardwell’s gear recommendations for more details.
@Lior
Got it. Just to confirm, the video transmitter is different from the receiver on the drone, right?

Exactly. The receiver is for your control link, while the video transmitter sends the camera feed to your goggles. If you’re adding a camera later, you’ll need a VTX for that. It depends on how you want to set up your drone.
@Lior
Thanks. I’ll add a camera eventually, but not right away. I’d like to try FPV later, but I’ll stick with the basics for now since this drone was free.

That’s a smart approach. Looks like your drone might have an autopilot setup, which can make things trickier, but it’s a great way to learn the basics. Enjoy the journey—it’s a fun hobby!

The Timberborn forum is also super chill and helpful.

What do you mean by that?
Watch Joshua Bardwell’s videos to get started.
Good luck learning the ropes.
Is that an Amiga 500?

What’s that?
Those DJI Phantom 3 propellers look small for such a big drone. Are those 920Kv motors? I’d suggest lower Kv motors for bigger props.

The X500 I’m working on runs 4S batteries. It’s not an FPV drone, though. You’ll need to learn ArduPilot to get yours flying.
@Dallas
I find INAV easier to use than ArduPilot.
