What happens if I fly my drone without the sticker?

I just got a DJI Air 3 and I’ve been really excited to test it out. I know I need to register it, but what if I fly it without putting the sticker on? Is it a big deal in the US, or can I just go ahead?

I registered my drone and got the confirmation email, but I never received a sticker. Am I missing something?

FAA doesn’t send stickers. You have to label it yourself. I just use an old-school label maker.

Pilot Institute will send free stickers. Here’s the link: Free FAA Drone Registration Stickers - Pilot Institute

Yup, that’s the one. I got the stickers and also took their Part 107 course. Felt really good after the exam.

Ah, that makes sense. I knew the FAA didn’t send stickers but didn’t want to be rude about it.

Their course was super helpful. I got a 95 on the test.

How long did you study, and what are you planning to do with your certification?

I took this Part 107 course. Took about a month between starting and taking the test. Not everyone needs a course, but it helped me focus.

Thanks for sharing!

I used the FAA’s free study guide and studied for a couple of months. Been filming for a TV show for years now.

Thanks for the info. My old drone actually came with a sticker.

Perfect excuse to finally buy that label maker I’ve been wanting.

I wrote mine in pencil on a scrap of paper and taped it to my drone. It’s holding up fine.

I’ve been flying for years in a major US city and never had anyone ask about registration. I stick to the rules and fly safe, but honestly, nobody’s ever bothered me about it.

I’ve been flying without any issues too.

The real risk is posting online. Some forum users love to pick apart footage and report people to the FAA. I’m more afraid of that than flying around in public.

Yeah, it’s this forum that does that more than any other.
