What is headless mode, and do DJI drones have it?

I’ve been trying to understand headless mode for flying drones, but I’m still a bit confused. Basically, it sounds like the drone flies based on the controller’s position instead of which way the drone’s facing, right? I’ve seen this on drones like the Tomzon mini, but do any DJI drones have this? I know some older ones had something similar called Home Lock or Course Lock. Does anyone use this? I’ve heard it’s not great for advanced flying, but maybe it’s useful for beginners or when the drone gets too far away. Any thoughts?

Yeah, headless mode is basically where the drone moves in relation to your controller, no matter what direction it’s facing. It can be helpful if you’re new to flying, but it’s definitely not the best for more advanced maneuvers. Some DJI drones like the Mavic Pro Platinum had Course Lock and Home Lock, but newer models have kinda moved away from that feature.

I actually tried it once on a cheaper drone. It was super easy to control, but I felt like it didn’t give me the full experience. Once you switch off headless mode, it can be a little tricky to figure out where the drone’s actually going, lol.

I’ve used Home Lock on a DJI drone before. It was super helpful when I was flying out of my line of sight. I could pull the stick back and it’d fly straight home without me having to worry about which way the drone was facing.

IDK, I’ve heard that headless mode is like driving in automatic versus manual. You can get by with it, but if you want to become a pro, you have to learn the traditional way. It’s harder at first, but way more rewarding.

Isn’t headless mode not so great for FPV racing? I’ve seen pros fly without it, but I’m not sure why it’s a problem for racing.
