I’m new to drones, so please bear with me. I’ve only flown an ANAFI Parrot and DJI Mini 2 for work, taking photos of bridges.
I want to start flying drones for fun, mainly for landscape photos and simple videos. Nothing too fancy, just enjoying flying.
My work gave me an old Yuneec Typhoon Q500 that was going to be thrown away because the gimbal needs fixing after a rough landing. It’ll cost about $400 for a new CGO3. I tested the rest of the drone, and it seems fine. The kit includes the drone, chargers, extra rotors, handheld gimbal mount, and three batteries. It seems like a good starter kit for free.
Should I invest in a new camera for the Yuneec, or should I buy a new drone like the DJI Mini 2 for a similar price? Are there any big differences between the two drones that I should know about?
It is an excellent comparison between the DJI Mini 2 and Yuneec Q500! For casual flying and landscape photography, you have outlined the benefits and drawbacks of each in detail.
The Mini 2 seems like a great option for someone new to drones. Once repaired, the Q500 might be a suitable choice if cost is a top priority and you feel confident operating a more powerful drone.
Hey Jason… Deciding between repairing the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 or purchasing a new drone like the DJI Mini 2 depends on factors such as cost, features, familiarity, performance, portability, and reliability. Repairing the Yuneec Typhoon Q500 could be cost-effective if the overall package’s value exceeds the repair cost and if its features meet your needs for capturing landscape photos and simple videos.
However, the DJI Mini 2 offers superior performance, camera quality, and portability, making it a compelling option for those prioritizing advanced features and ease of use. Ultimately, the decision hinges on your budget, preferences, and intended use for recreational drone flying.
Hello @Jason , ok The Yuneec Typhoon Q500 4K and the DJI Mini 2 are both popular drones, but they cater to different needs and preferences but the DJI Mavic 3 Pro is one of the best drone and the most advanced consumer drone to date and thanks to advanced features including omnidirectional collision avoidance, advanced Return to Home and advanced subject tracking, his is a powerful 33.8oz / 958g drone offering three cameras on its gimbal.
