Why did they discontinue the Phantom?

I understand it was quite bulky, but this drone wasn’t designed for those who need to carry it in a backpack. It was made for dedicated enthusiasts who prioritize performance over portability. This model was iconic for DJI and for drones in general.

Hi Breitner, You’re spot on. The DJI Inspire 2 revolutionized aerial cinematography with its advanced features. Its larger build and dual battery system were crucial for providing extended flight times and carrying heavier payloads, making it ideal for high-quality, professional footage.

Though it may not be the most practical choice for casual users, the Inspire 2 continues to be the go-to drone for filmmakers, photographers, and professionals who need exceptional performance.

Technology is more than just a single little camera. A lot of upgrades might have been made to the Phantom’s larger frame, such as adding many cameras to give something different or 360° capabilities, etc. I find it much easier to add extra spice to that companion than it is to the tiny Mavic.
I’m not sure, but I’m not an engineer in that area.

For the same reason (higher tier/pro-grade camera), the Matrice/Inspire also exists.

I’m disappointed that it was discontinued since, in my opinion, we are still paying for the folding/nanism design of the Phantom 4, which was a great drone for anyone who happened to be carrying a backpack or something like.
