Will the Mavic 4 use the same battery as the Mavic 3?

Hello everyone. I’m curious if the batteries will be interchangeable, as I want to purchase an extra battery but plan on getting the Mavic 4. I don’t want to invest in another battery if it won’t work with the new model.

DJI rarely allows compatibility between different models.

The Mini 3 series shares batteries with the Mini 4 series.

Sort of, but a Mini 3 battery in a Mini 4 makes it over 250g.

Check my other comment for more detail (I dove down a rabbit hole).

Probably not. That’s a significant drawback of buying DJI products (at least the consumer grade ones). They lack standardization; each drone is a unique entity with specific components. When a new version launches, your current model is considered obsolete by DJI.

It seems impractical, as constant development of new batteries must incur substantial costs.

Their devices tend to have short lifespans. I hope the industry stabilizes eventually, so they produce products that don’t become obsolete every time a new model is released.

It’s not unusual. Apple does the same thing. It’s profitable for them.

Apple isn’t standard practice though; their methods are viewed negatively, which is why the EU is forcing them to change. They need to adopt standardized cables, and soon they’ll be required to have swappable and repairable batteries.

I own a lot of camera gear, much of it is standardized because professionals can’t afford to invest in equipment that becomes redundant every few years.

@Jai
DJI operates like the Apple of drones. They remain unchallenged in the market.

True. They can get away with this for now, but such practices foster resentment. I personally avoid Apple products.

Likely not. Leaks indicate a totally different design. Moreover, DJI typically avoids consistent battery design across generations.

Mini 3 and Mini 4 share the same battery.

Refer to my earlier comment for more information.

@Linden
I’ll concede that point regarding this specific instance.

If I recall correctly, the Air 3 and Air 3S also utilize the same batteries.

Within the same generation, batteries are typically the same.

Not quite. They’re compatible but not identical; an Air 3 battery in the Air 3S won’t allow for quick battery transfers while the drone is off.

That will never happen. Each new model typically reflects advancements in technology, resulting in different batteries.

There are rumors of significant improvements in flight time, so unless the M4 is exceptionally more efficient and the lidar rumors hold, it indicates a more powerful battery.

It doesn’t seem likely.

I don’t think DJI has ever made a drone where batteries from the previous model were compatible.
