You guys see this wild proposal from a TN official?

So apparently, a Tennessee elected official is pushing for a law that would let people shoot down drones if they believe they’re flying under 200 feet over their property.

There’s no way this will pass or override the FAA, right? Imagine letting random people decide if a drone is legal or not—without even being able to measure altitude. :man_facepalming:

It’s only a matter of time before someone shoots at a manned aircraft thinking it’s a drone. People are ridiculous. Just look at New Jersey for proof of how dumb and paranoid folks can be.

Saw someone comment on the original article—just wait until they start shooting at helicopters at night. :man_facepalming:

Here’s the thing—Congress gave the FAA authority over airspace, but technically, Congress can take that authority away. Even if this bill doesn’t pass, if someone high up decides they don’t want the FAA enforcing drone laws, that could change overnight. Nothing surprises me anymore.

Some idiot in Colorado tried something similar a few years back, and—no pun intended—it got shot down.

My old neighbor used to threaten to shoot down drones all the time (not realizing one of them was mine). I had to explain the laws, show him that my Air 3 wasn’t zooming into his bathroom window from 400 feet, and remind him that I fly commercially under Part 107.

Ironically, I ended up catching that same neighbor on my drone tearing up my yard with his ATV, riding through a creek (huge no-no), and trashing my shooting range. Now he’s in a mess of legal trouble, plus his illegal home expansion in a floodplain is finally getting some attention. Karma’s a funny thing.

‘If the person believes the drone is flying under 200 feet…’

Most people have zero clue how high something is flying. Just look at New Jersey, where people lose their minds over anything in the sky.

@Jade
That ‘if they believe’ part is wild. People can believe whatever they want—it doesn’t make it true.
