Anything I should know before buying a Dji fpv drone?

A guy offered me a DJI FPV drone for $550. Is it a good deal or should I pass?

That’s a great price, but honestly, it’s probably the most fragile FPV quad you could buy. It’s like it’s made of glass.

I hear you. I was thinking of using it mostly for filming in safe modes, just to avoid crashing. Planning to build a 5” for freestyle later anyway.

@Blakeley
I sold one at that price! I mainly used it for the goggles, but it’s fun just cruising around with it, especially on trips. It’s no freestyle champ, but it has great features like return to home. Just don’t crash it, because repairs are tricky. Watch some YouTube videos on replacing parts, they’ll scare you enough to be extra careful!

@Fern
Thanks for the heads up! Definitely going to be careful with it.

@Blakeley
It’s great for casual flying, just don’t expect too much in terms of freestyle performance. It has good range and return-to-home, which is nice if you aren’t familiar with setting up GPS on other systems.

@Marin
Yeah, the range and GPS features are definitely a plus. Just messaged the guy, gonna pick it up!

@Blakeley
Why are you interested in DJI video?

Mostly for the quality. I flew a friend’s analog whoop and the picture was awful. I want something that feels more immersive, like I’m really flying!

@Blakeley
Totally get it. DJI definitely has the best image quality and range, but it locks you into their system. If you’re okay with that, go for it. Just remember there are other systems like HDZero and Walksnail that are more open and might save you money in the long run.

@August
Thanks for the info! I’ll definitely do some more research before pulling the trigger.

Yeah, do your research, especially if you’re flying long distances. If you’re not going 20km or more, Walksnail might be a good alternative.

@August
I don’t need 20km, but my property is 4-5 miles long and borders open forest. So yeah, range is pretty important to me.

still one of my top 3 FPV drones

For serious long-range flying, some people stick with analog or HDZero, but DJI works well too if you’re sticking to line-of-sight.

HDZero is actually the shortest range of the digital systems, but if you’re not pushing it too hard, it could still work.

@August
I was referring to really open-air long-range stuff. Analog still seems to have more power for that, but I’m not a long-range flyer myself.

From what I’ve seen, DJI’s range isn’t bad, but you might find better options for long-range setups.

@August
DJI range is limited, but Walksnail has some serious distance. People are hitting 20km+ with that system.

@Blakeley
I’d suggest looking into Walksnail or HDZero. With DJI, you have to activate it with your info, and it gets sent to China. Also, Walksnail just released a 4K option that might interest you.

Thanks for that. I actually picked up the DJI kit already but I’m planning to sell it and use the profit to switch to Walksnail. The 4K feature sounds really tempting!
