Seems like a new tracking beacon is coming. Anyone excited or have thoughts on it?
So does this mean my drone will follow the beacon instead of using visual tracking? That would be a game-changer for me.
Throwing my drone up above the trees and having it keep track of me while mountain biking through the woods? That’s a dream.
Voice control too? No more messing with my bike and RC? This is getting me pumped.

YESSSSS!
I’ve wanted something like this ever since I tried out the Skydio 2 beacon in 2020. Took DJI long enough, but I’m glad it’s finally here.
This sounds like a dream come true. Been waiting for something like this for a while.
They really know how to drain my wallet… Alright, I guess I’ll buy it. But for real, this is my last DJI purchase this year…
I hope this beacon has directional data too… it should help the drone navigate based on where it’s tracking. I saw some mountain biking videos where the drone just moved back and forth instead of actually following the rider.
DJI is definitely leveling up with this track beacon—can’t wait to see how it changes the flying experience!
It’s meant for the Air 3S (Ocusync 5.0).
Hoping it’ll also work with Ocusync 4.0 models like the Air 3, Mini 4 Pro, Neo, Avata 2, and more.

Air 3S actually has Ocusync 4.0 and comes with RC2 and RC-N3 controllers.
@Afton
DJI RCs can support different Ocusync versions, so they might add support through an update. RC1 and N2 work with O2, O3, and O3+.

Yeah, I get that. I was just pointing out that Ocusync 5 doesn’t exist yet.
@Afton
True, but that doesn’t mean the RC2 or N3 won’t support it when it comes out.

Wait, where did you hear that the Air 3S will have OS 5?

When Hover launched their newer drone with beacons, I immediately wished for something like this for DJI.
I’d be surprised if it’s not compatible with those other models you mentioned. It would definitely be a must-buy for owners of those drones.
DJI Neo, anyone else hyped?
Didn’t the old Mavic Pro track the remote like a beacon? Any long-time users remember that?
Curious to see what new features this brings… APAS 4.0 already tracks moving stuff pretty well. What’s this going to add?

My drone loses me all the time when I’m biking. I’m hoping it tracks the beacon’s signal instead of just relying on visuals.
Mounting the RC to my bike is sketchy too, so voice control sounds like it could be a game changer.
@Huxley
Honestly, you shouldn’t be biking and operating a drone at the same time, even with the beacon. It doesn’t change the FAA’s rules about staying ready to take control if needed.
