How many people are killed each year by drones weighing less than 250g?

I heard that over a million of these drones are sold each year in the US. How many deaths do they actually cause?

Thanks for your thoughts.

1-2.5 million per month.

That seems really high. Maybe that number refers to injuries, not deaths?

r/woooosh

My family had a terrifying experience with a group of drones under 250g. No one died, but we all lost at least three limbs. They definitely weren’t trust certificate holders…

I imagine a swarm of mini drones coming in with ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ playing, but on kazoos!

Oh, definitely millions.

In Massachusetts alone, thousands die each year from drones targeting people who don’t pay their taxes.

I haven’t heard of any civilians dying from consumer drones, especially the small ones. It would be a freak accident if it happened, like a drone hitting someone in the temple.

I haven’t met anyone who weighs less than 250g.

Haha, I thought the same thing. That made me laugh a bit.

Sub-250g drones are the new Lawn Darts.

Are we considering the butterfly effect here?

Or is this more like Kessler Syndrome?

That could go both ways, so probably best to call it a wash.

One day my drone is probably gonna kill me. I keep getting these little bruises, and my friends are starting to get suspicious. I think they know the truth. :pensive: I wanna get away, but I know it’s my fault.

Does this count?

I couldn’t find a single fatality in the US caused by drone impact though.

A sub-250g drone is EXTREMELY unlikely to cause death. It would take a very rare accident with a mini drone to kill someone.

These drones can cause serious injuries, but as others have pointed out, there are no known deaths from mini drones in the US, or really anywhere else. Even accidents with aircraft haven’t led to fatalities.

I think the chance is somewhere between 5-12%, which seems pretty low. People need to try harder. Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

FYI, that’s lighter than a football.

Footballs can be dangerous. Lots of people get hurt playing football, but it seems like fewer people get hurt flying drones.
