I regret buying the Mic Mini and I'm returning it

After 2 days, I’m at my wits end with this thing.

DJI lied about Bluetooth functionality in the promotional material and the owner’s manual, which makes using it with my phone a hassle. I don’t want to plug it directly into my phone, that’s dumb, because now I can’t put my phone in my pocket without fear of breaking the connector since it sits sideways rather than flush.

My primary reason for this mic was to capture audio with the DJI Fly app on my phone while using my Flip in autonomous mode, such as spotlight or follow.

Well guess what, the audio sounds like shit, even though it’s directly plugged in. Seriously, it’s worse than a phone call with a bad connection.

I also read that the TX units are supposed to pair directly with a phone for audio capture, but nope, that doesn’t work, either. They pair, but they are only available for call audio. WTF good does that do?

If I’m wrong and there’s a way to connect these mics for audio via Bluetooth while using the Flip for vlogging, please tell me. I’m starting a return through Amazon now and likely dropping them off tomorrow, they’ve pissed me off enough that I don’t even want to fool with them on my Insta360 X4 now.

Honestly I’d return and upgrade to the 2. Far, far better than the mini

But will they ACTUALLY connect to my phone via Bluetooth? Beyond that, will they record audio via my phone when filming with the Flip and, if so, does it still sound like a landline phone?

@Hayes
Couple of things going on here.

I’m guessing you have an iPhone. You can’t use any Bluetooth mic with the stock camera app, that’s an Apple thing. Gotta plug them all in.

Bluetooth is not a great protocol for receiving high quality audio. You definitely can connect the Mic Mini and Mic 2 via Bluetooth and then record audio using the DJI Fly app, but it’ll penalty sound like shit.

Plugging it in is the best solution across the board.

@Remy
I don’t do apple devices.

Plugging it in was the only way it worked, that’s what got the results that sounded like shit.

Huh, weird.

@Remy
Thats wrong. For iphone you can use bluetooth mics you need to use third party apps such as black magic.

…I specifically said you can’t use them with the stock camera app.

@Remy
Yea but you see they didn’t read that carefully so sorry you are wrong.

I never had the original, but I have the 2 and I love it

My $29 Bower mic from Walmart has the same sound quality as the $300 DJI Mic.

Already had a cheap one like that, figured I would get better sound with the DJI, but they’re identical. Both sound like a bad phone call.

Edit: not saying yours does, just saying the cheap one I had did, my bad

Oh, it does most of the time… but when I position it just right, it sounds pretty good in my opinion.

Highly doubt it

Don’t the mic transmitters record internally?

That’s the 2, OP has the mini

The original one does. I’m not sure about the other two. I just recorded on the mic and then connected to the pc to download the file. I rarely use receiver.

No

Glad I went with the Rode mics then. That sucks.

Same here… I’m getting the Mic 2
