WOODLAND, Maine (AP), So apparently, a man used homemade bombs, even dropping some from drones, in what seems to be a fight over local politics in northern Maine. Thankfully, no one was injured. The authorities said he was using this stuff to scare or threaten people.

Honestly, I knew something like this would happen someday.

Exactly why I posted as soon as I heard it on the news. It’s surprising there haven’t been more stories like this yet. Feels like it’s only going to get worse. But hey, at least it’s pretty easy for these people to get caught right now… it’ll be a while before they figure out how to stay under the radar.
@Rex
If you actually know how to avoid getting caught with a drone, you’d probably be making money instead of dropping fireworks on someone’s house.

True. If you can build a custom drone, you’d think it would be easy to avoid getting tracked.
@Yan
Well, it’s easy enough to avoid being tracked in real time, especially if you’re not broadcasting a remote ID like commercial drones have to.

And since the transmission isn’t encrypted, you can do a lot without anyone noticing, even with a basic DJI Mini.
@Rex
Honestly, setting up a system to drop something from a drone is more complicated than people think. It’s probably why you don’t hear about it more.

Actually, they have devices for this stuff. Like, you can use the landing light on a Mini 4 Pro to trigger the drop. It works at pretty much any range as long as the drone is still connected to the controller.

Yeah, I’ve got drop devices for the Mini 4, Mavic 3, and Matrice 30. The Mini and Mavic use the landing light, while the Matrice uses the PSDK system. Bought them all online no problem. For the record, I’m using them for emergency services only.

And so-called ‘dragon drones’ are a reality now… people always said anyone could build one in their backyard, but now it’s not just the big guys who have them. Think about what the bad guys could do with this tech.

So… was it a DJI drone?
Did the guy at least have a license for flying drones?

Pretty sure that’s the first thing most people on this forum would be curious about.

Right? I wonder if he had his remote ID turned on.

And was he keeping the drone in his line of sight when dropping the bombs? Somehow, I doubt it.
@Ash
Let’s hope he at least had a spotter, right?

I once posted some drone shots on Facebook, and like 25 people asked if I had my license. (I do, by the way.)

Ah, the life of a certified drone operator, huh?

Wonder if it was a little under 250 grams… maybe even a tiny Neo with a firecracker.
