My Neo took a dive into the ocean... anyone else had this happen?

I think the water must’ve confused the sensors. I didn’t notice the issue until it was too late, and no matter how much I spammed the motion controller, it was no help! I managed to recover the drone, but unfortunately, it’s completely fried now.

At least you got a cool underwater shot out of it!

A one-time-use GoPro moment.

DJI should’ve warned us about flying over water… oh wait, they did.

And yet their promo video shows someone launching and catching the Neo on a paddleboard in the middle of a lake. Oh, and a woman wakeboarding. Go figure.

@Noor
I know, right? It’s pretty misleading… but hey, still hilarious! :joy:

@Noor
Yep, feels like false advertising to me.

Maybe not entirely false advertising, but they could’ve added a warning like, ‘Fly over water with caution; performance may vary.’ Wouldn’t hurt.

@Noor
Probably why they added a disclaimer in their DJI Flip video.

Well, this is awkward! :joy:

Unless you’ve got the power to save it.

So is it better to avoid flying close to the water’s surface?

Yes. Reflections and the moving surface can confuse the sensors, making the drone lose track of its altitude and end up in the water. Fly at least 30 feet above the surface to stay safe.

@Uma
For the metric folks out there, that’s about 9 meters.

Thank you for the conversion!

@Uma
Does this apply to manual mode too?

If you’re in manual mode, it’s all up to you.

@Uma
Would flying in Sport mode be safer?

This is why I stick to manual mode with the FPV remote. If I need to adjust settings, I do it at a safe altitude—usually 50 meters or higher—or before takeoff.
