Should I go for the Pro 4 over the Pro 3? First time drone user here and the price difference is $759 for Pro 3 and $1284 for Pro 4

Is it worth getting the Pro 4 over the Pro 3 for a first-time drone user?

That’s not a Mini Pro 3, that’s just a Mini 3. But yeah, get the Mini 4 Pro. You won’t regret it.

The RC 2 is totally worth it.

Better connection. Why spend $1000 just to hook it to your phone?

I saw both have controllers in the pictures. Why does one need a phone?

Why?

RC - You have to connect your phone to the controller and use the phone mount. Then you can fly.

RC 2 - The controller has a built-in screen. No need to waste your phone battery or data.

That’s not quite right.

RC - Has a built-in screen, no phone needed - DJI RC - DJI

RC 2 - Just a newer version - DJI RC 2 - DJI

RC-N3 - No screen, needs your phone - Buy DJI RC-N3 - DJI Store

Fair enough. I should add, I’ve crashed two drones.

Thanks for the info.

Just get the regular Mini 3, it’s more than enough for what you need.

Definitely not worth it. I do photo and video work professionally and use the Mini 3 Pro when I can’t bring my Mavic 3 Pro. My clients never notice. The Mini 3 Pro is a great little drone.

Except he’s talking about the regular Mini 3, sadly.

I didn’t upgrade my Mini 3 Pro, though I was thinking about it. I’ve gone from Mavic Pro to Mini 2, then to Mini 3 Pro.

Do you need waypoints or cruise control? If not, maybe save the money since the camera is basically the same. The RC 2 controller is way better, and it even does HDMI out if you care about that. But, for me, it wasn’t enough of a reason to justify the price jump. Also, the batteries were different, which was a bit annoying.

It’s a tough choice, but if you can comfortably afford it, the Pro 4 is better.

Mini 3 vs. 4 Pro, yes. Mini 3 Pro vs. 4 Pro, no. RC 2 is still awesome though.

The RC controller would be a problem for me. If you plan to use third-party apps later, you can’t with it.

Also, I like custom controls. DJI can’t make it work with Android. With RC-Nx, you can connect an iPhone, set your custom settings, and save them. As far as I know, you can’t do this with the RC controller, which runs a closed version of Android.

I have the regular Mini 3, and I’m happy with it. The picture quality doesn’t differ much.

It seems like getting a drone without obstacle avoidance is good for learning.

Honestly, no. The Pro 4 only adds some extra sensors for sideways obstacle avoidance, a slightly better camera, and better active track. It’s not worth $600 for that.

Edit: Just saw you meant the regular Mini 3. The Pro 4 is better than that, but from a Mini 3 Pro to a 4 Pro, no.

Yes.

I’m happy with my regular Mini 3. I’m barely using my Mavic Pro anymore. The extra features on the Mini Pro didn’t seem worth the price to me.

If I could do it again, I’d go for the Mini 3. I’m not using all the features I paid for with the Mini 4 Pro.

The Mini 3 has the same speed, a bit less range, and flies longer. I’m in Sport mode most of the time anyway.
