I’ve been hearing a lot about the TikTok ban, and it got me thinking… could DJI eventually face something similar? What are your thoughts?
The whole thing is ridiculous. The government claims it’s about protecting our data, but honestly, they don’t care about that. Our data is already being sold and traded by companies like Verizon, Google, Facebook, and Apple. If they really cared, they’d pass laws to protect us from corporate exploitation, but instead, this is just about corporate greed and control.
As for DJI, any ban threats are just as much of a joke. They make great products and have excellent customer service, but the reality is that our system incentivizes outsourcing everything overseas while keeping wages low here. This isn’t about security—it’s about money and control.
@Levi
Thanks for sharing your perspective. Definitely some food for thought.

There’s also the issue of government-controlled media. Banning apps or forcing companies to hand over intellectual property sets a dangerous precedent for limiting access to free information.

That ship sailed a while ago. Remember when the government demanded journalists reveal their sources? That was a turning point.
@Levi
And don’t forget Reagan getting rid of the Fairness Doctrine. That was a huge step backward.

Agreed, but it’s all part of a bigger picture. It’s a coordinated effort.
@Levi
Sadly, it feels like they’ve already taken control of key institutions. It’s hard to see a way back.

Democracy here feels like it’s on its last legs. The courts, Congress, and the presidency—everything is controlled now. We’re entering a new era, and not in a good way.
The concern with TikTok isn’t the videos—it’s the data collection. Tens of millions of users have an app in their pocket that could be mapping interior layouts of buildings. DJI doesn’t have nearly the same user base, so the scale of concern is much smaller.
Can we have one sub where the TikTok ban doesn’t come up?

Lol, you’re probably going to get downvoted, but I appreciate you saying it.

The OP was talking about this on the TikTok sub earlier. Seems like they’re just looking for negative takes to share.
@Sam
Weird how you’re checking my posts. I’m just here to engage in discussions. Maybe focus less on others’ posting history and more on the actual conversation.

It’s actually pretty relevant here. If Apple products were being banned, wouldn’t the iPhone sub be a good place to talk about it?
@Harlem
This feels more like a political show than anything serious. TikTok and DJI aren’t the same.

They’re both Chinese companies that answer to the government there. That’s the concern.
@Harlem
ByteDance and DJI are completely different companies. This is more about optics than actual security concerns. If it were about data, why aren’t they targeting apps like SHEIN?

This is a good place to discuss this, since it could indicate what might happen with DJI in the future. I’d keep an eye on what happens with TikTok—it might give us a clue.
@Lior
Thanks, that’s exactly what I was getting at. I use my drones for business and am hesitant to invest in upgrades if there’s a risk of bans.
